and where are you from?

Since June of 1982, I have lived in five different states, ten different cities, and at 22 physical addresses.

I use augmented reality (AR) to reveal an archive of my personal residency history. The names of each geographical location have been painted in chronological order beginning with the town I was born in, finishing at the place where I live now. These names were then extracted one by one and recreated digitally to be recognized by a designed augmented lens.

Wait, What Was I Building? And For Whom Was I Building It For?

Exhibition statement

Through acts of material manipulation and information reduction, I make visual abstractions as an expression of my disillusion caused by the conflation between presented and experienced realities.

I do not have and see little way of attaining the physical, emotional, and economic resources to keep up with the Joneses, the Americans, the Christians, the neo-liberals, and most notably, the ever-shrinking critical intellectual space needed to research, mine, and construct a better more sustainable future for everyone.

Making this work is a way for me to digest the reality of this overwhelming situation while staving off the incoming emotional paralysis that the situation is leading me toward.e the unbalanced abstraction that feels very real to me. The unwoven areas present the markers and symbols that daily remind me of my disillusion.
